Form of Maa Kalaratri
Maa Kalaratri is dark in complexion with loose hair, three eyes and a necklace that shines like lightning. She rides a donkey and holds a sword and an iron hook, while her other hands bless and protect.
Maa Kalaratri Katha
The demon Raktabija had a boon that every drop of his blood falling on the earth would give rise to a new demon. As the Goddess wounded him, thousands of copies sprang up.
The Goddess then took the terrifying form of Kalaratri, caught every drop of his blood before it could touch the ground, and destroyed Raktabija completely.
Though fearsome in appearance, she always brings good results to her devotees, and so she is also called Shubhankari - "the one who does good".

Day 7 Puja Vidhi
- Wake early, bathe and wear grey if you can.
- Worship the kalash and light the lamp (or tend the Akhand Jyoti).
- Place a picture of Maa Kalaratri and offer roli, akshat and night-blooming jasmine (raat ki rani) or red flowers.
- Offer the bhog: jaggery (gud), or sweets made with jaggery.
- Chant "Om Devi Kalaratryai Namah" 108 times, then recite the stuti above.
- Read the Durga Chalisa or a chapter of the Durga Saptashati.
- End with the Jai Ambe Gauri aarti and share the prasad.
