I bow to Lord Shani, the slow-moving one. 'Sham' is the seed syllable of Saturn. The shloka describes Shani as one who is dark like blue collyrium, son of the Sun God (Ravi), elder brother of Yama (God of Death), and born of Chhaya (Shadow) and the Sun. This mantra pacifies Saturn's influence and bestows justice and wisdom.
